Plucky Palmer lands plum prize

Roger's winning trip on the Boat Project

Over the bank holiday weekend, six TSC members took part in the RYA Passage to Portland rally. This event took place at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA) – the Olympic sailing venue. As part of the event there was a random draw to get a sail on the Boat Project. This unique project is part of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad. Between February and July 2011 members of the public donated 1,221 pieces of wood and these have all been incorporated into a 30 foot boat designed specifically for the project. The project was conceived by a pair of artists called Greg and Garry – collectively known as Lone Twin.

The quality of the workmanship on the boat is extraordinary and the boat turns heads wherever it goes. However, it is a living (and moving) piece of art and Roger Palmer was lucky enough to win a ride on the boat. In winds gusting 25kts, it was a lively ride but an exhilarating sail on what is a beautifully designed boat. If you get a chance to see the boat, she is well worth looking at. She is currently making her way back along the south coast towards Ramsgate and Margate stopping at various ports along the way.
