A discouraging forecast meant that numbers were down for the Tollesbury Smack and Classic Race, sailed in winds gusting from Force 5 to 7. Two Classic yachts came to the line and at the finish only a few seconds separated them on corrected time. TSC’s ‘Cygnet of Arden’ took Line Honours but the race was won by ‘Framat’, I believe she is a Swedish 18.5 sq m.

Seven Smacks competed.  At the prizegiving, Nigel Butt gave us an insight into the life of the late John Rigby before the new trophy, presented in his memory, ‘The John Rigby Mug’ was awarded to ‘Maria’, who also received the overall prize for the race. Second was ‘My Alice’, third ‘Peace’, with ‘Charlotte Ellen’ coming home in 4th place.
