Firkin marvellous Harvest Supper

Local produce is the theme of the Club’s 2013 Harvest Supper. Following on from the Cadets’ hog roast, it is the Dinghy fleet’s fund raiser, though open to all. It features a choice of pork from Wicks Manor or beef off Tollesbury Wick. Veg comes from D’arcy and both pumpkin soup starter and fruit in the puddings comes from the village, all meeting our target of within a five mile radius. But what to drink? The nearest brewery is an 11 mile drive away on Mersea Island. So, us being a sailing club, we chose the shorter route to collect our Firkin – by sea! George Rogers and Dinghy Captain Rik Alewijnse put the General Purpose in GP14 to the test by using George’s boat as a freighter. Despite the light winds and occasional showers, we arrived at the West Mersea hammer-head in good time for our rendezvous with the brewer’s dray. With mats to protect the varnish, we loaded up and set off back to Tollesbury, delivering cargo to the quay as so many have in days gone by. After a week to settle, the 72 pints of “Yo Boy” will be just the thing to wash the supper down next Saturday (26th). Tickets are selling fast, so get yours soon: from the club, or Palmer’s Garage.
